This is my first Digimon Fan-Fiction. I haven't gotten far, but I love the idea, I might even see if I can make it into an RP on the site...dunno. It will become violent and dark later on, but now it's just setting the scene.
Digimon Fan-Fic
Blood, Sweat, and Fur
Chapter 1
It all started a long time ago; it was strange, what really happened. Three years ago, a large blue wave extended from the tallest building in our city. I don’t know if it enveloped the world, or just what I could see, but from the moment that wave struck, my whole life, and the lives of all digimon changed forever. On that particular night I had been wandering the rooftops, having a fight with my tamer, Rika. Yes, my name is Renamon, and this is my story.
I had been out for some time that night; it didn’t seem to be any different than any other. Rika had gone to sleep, so once again I was alone. The fight we had had earlier started with a fight, like any other. This one was just more powerful than I, and I was chastised for something out of my control. Still, with the help of my tamer’s cards, the wild digimon had been vanquished. I never truly understood the workings of those cards, and I never found out, nor do I think I will ever know, but ever since that night I now rely mainly on myself.
It had come, around midnight, from the tallest building in the center of the city. Everything was peaceful, the human vehicles, the bright lights, nothing was out of the ordinary. Then the Earth stood still. Everything stopped moving, all the lights went out and a chill wind blew from all directions. I was instantly on alert, expecting some powerful digimon to come through a rift into this reality. No supernatural fog came though, just a strange buzzing that seemed to come from everywhere. It became so strong that the roof on which I stood shook.
Every digimon in the vicinity awoke at this time and all stared up at the sky. Humans had frozen in their tracks, and it seemed as if we digimon were the only ones truly...alive. Then the wave came. The shaking became so violent that I leapt off the roof onto the ground, but it was even worse here. And then, that large blue wave extended from the top of that building. It was slow, and strange. Never for a moment did it look menacing; in fact it looked inviting, as if it would solve all our problems. Instead, it just created more.
As soon as it touched my skin, I knew something was wrong. I felt a deadly cold, starting from my chest and expanding until every limb was numb. My vision blurred and I heard countless horrible screams, which I added mine to, as the numbness went away to be replaced with unfathomable pain. Crawling into a ball, I tried to make myself as small as possible, grasping my head and my chest, hoping it would all end soon. It was never clear exactly what happened next, but I awoke on a mat in Rika’s room.
Strange…Rika never had a mat other than for herself. Rika herself was still asleep, as the sun was still creeping its way up over the horizon. Her bus wouldn’t come for another two and a half hours. I stood, watching my tamer’s chest rhythmically rise and fall, in total peace in her dreamland. Slowly, I reached over her and opened the window, just enough so I could let myself out. My tamer stirred in her sleep, and I paused, sitting on the windowsill. “Sleep” I murmured, and disappeared into the coming light.
It would not be wise to see Rika off to the bus, after our fight, and I wanted to be alone to think about what had happened. That blue wave, what had it done? What was its purpose? The humans seemed to be unaware of anything, they continued doing whatever it was they did. Power had come back to the world, or perhaps it had never left. Maybe what I had seen was only in my mind, and if so, why?
I was careful to not be seen by normal humans, as usual, keeping to the rooftops and trees. I had all day to contemplate. First, I wanted to see if any other digimon had witnessed what I had. It was unlikely Takato or Henry were up at this time, and likely their partners were asleep just like the humans. So, I searched for the only other one I knew, one whose very nature was strange, for he wasn’t wild, nor did he have a human counterpart.
“You looking at me, Toots?” It hadn’t taken me long to find exactly who I was looking for. Impmon was sneering at passersby in the nearby park. “You come to make fun of these pathetic people?” He asked, waving a gloved, three fingered hand at the humans nearby. I was sitting on a branch near his, and was indeed looking at him.
“One of these pathetic people is the one who makes me strong. I came for information” I stated matter-of-factly.
“Oh, well soorry!” He sblack personed, sounding slightly hurt. “Besides, what do you want from little ol’ me that your precious human can’t give ya, huh?” Pointing a finger at me and closing an eye.
“I knew it was pointless trying to talk to you” I shot back, standing on the branch I turned to leave when,
“What!? Man, you’re no fun ya know that? Can’t a guy have a little fun? Sheesh!” I turned around and saw the purple demon leaning against the tree with his arms crossed “No fun at all” He repeated. I crossed my arms, but stayed standing.
“What do you know about what happened last night?” I asked, not fully looking at him, but more at the people. How they went about their daily lives, with no knowledge of us digimon. I half wondered what would happen if we revealed ourselves to them. No one told us to keep to the shadows, it was more an instinct. We don’t fit in with them, just like they never truly fit in the Digital world. And yet, there were some special humans who could make us stronger than we could ever imagine.
“Ehh…what about it?” He asked, prodding his chin as if he couldn’t remember. I knew he was playing with me, and it was getting old.
“What about that blue thing?”
“You’re asking the wrong digimon, Toots, I don’t know any more than you do” That answered one question, and yet brought up many others.
“So it really did happen? And it came from that building” I mused, half to myself. And it was likely none of the others knew anything either. I never expected much from Guilmon, but Terriermon might have something of interest. But Henry took his partner to school with him…
“Unless we’re both seeing things, yeah. But I don’t wanna check into some loony bin. Is that all, or are ya gonna bore me to death?” Impmon sblack personed, turning his back and making faces at the humans again. By the time he turned around again, I was gone.
The school was difficult to sneak in unnoticed, so it was near impossible to talk to Terriermon for more than a few scant minutes, and I didn’t feel inclined to try. So, I tried to get close to that tall building. I found it strange that I had never tried to get close to it before, and I knew almost nothing about it. There were stories and rumors, of course, but none had been proven. They say a rich family built it and that it was a home for scientific experiments. It also had a reputation for technological advances. Everything was top-secret and confidential.
Nothing like that has stopped me before. But I had second thoughts by the time I was near enough to read the name. It was called the Hypnos building. As I watched, a few men walked out wearing dark suits and sunglasses. There were three of them, and the crowd of people meandering through the streets seemed to part for them almost unconsciously. Suspicious.
I followed them, keeping to the shadows. They never looked up, never knew any better. But nothing happened. They split up, and I followed the tallest one, but to no avail. He sat in a restaurant and went back to the Hypnos building and I was none the wiser about what had happened the night before. I sat and thought about the next move. I needed a wild digimon to keep my mind off things, and to prove to Rika that I was still strong. But it had been peaceful today, not that it was out of the ordinary.
I left the vicinity of the building, not wanting to infiltrate it without Rika backing me up, which meant I would have to make amends with her soon. Still, it was barely noon, and my tamer didn’t get out until much later. Perhaps I should go see Guilmon. He was too big to take to school, so his tamer, Takato left him either at home or locked up under a little side street with grass sides.
The secluded cage turned out to be empty, so that left Takato’s house. It was near the prison, and easily locatable. Within a minute I stood on the white balcony of the building, looking in the sliding glass door at the red dinosaur creature. Guilmon scented me almost immediately and growled, but once his eyes fell on me he relaxed, even deigning to open the door like a gentle-mon.
“Hey!” He exclaimed when we were close. I had alighted on the metal railing, and was watching him. “What are you doing here?” He asked, he snorted and giggled, which really didn’t fit his appearance at all. But I knew Guilmon was a playful one who preferred games and food to fighting, but when it came to it he was quite formidable.
“I wanted to talk to you” I stated “Is anyone else here?” I didn’t want to be eavesdropped on, especially by another digimon, but I didn’t tell him that.
He looked confused and said “Takato’s gone to school and I have no one to play with” That wasn’t exactly the question, but that didn’t matter. “What’s going on?” He asked. Whether he was asking why I wanted to talk to him, or what had happened last night, I didn’t know, but the answer would’ve been the same regardless.
“What do you know of what happened last night?” I asked. Now the tattooed lizard really looked confused.
“What do you mean? That blue pain thing? Takato-mon says I was imagining things….was I?” Just what I had expected, with that I expected all the digimon felt it, but nobody knew anything else about it. Apparently I was the only one trying to find out.
“Yes, that. We weren’t imagining it. Others have seen it too” Now I realized speaking with Terriermon was pointless. Next I needed to talk to Rika, but school was still far from out. “Tell Takato what I said” I said before turning and teleporting to Rika’s house. I actually felt the teleport. It had never happened before, the Kohenkyo spell was very simple and took up a miniscule amount of energy. Now, however I felt a tingling throughout my whole body and felt the speed at which I was traveling. Stranger still, I felt a little tired. Now, I was nervous, and really wanted school to be out. Rika should know about this.
Having nothing else to do, I waited in Rika’s room. Waited, and watched the time. I normally sit and ponder when I have nothing to do, which is often. I think about our existence, the bonds we share with humans, why I was in the human world in the first place, and so on. But now I couldn’t seem to wrap my mind around any particular subject, and the seconds ticked by.
Of course, it had to be now a wild digimon had to turn up. I can sense the unnatural fog that hides their presence, and sometimes the digimon itself, if it was strong enough. I got up and left without further prompting, it was closer to Rika’s school than my liking, but I didn’t have a choice.
I went as fast as I could, using the rooftops again, not daring to teleport lest it take precious energy from me again. The mist could be seen a ways away, but the humans didn’t seem to notice, it made fighting easier.
